Hey guys, I’ve been busy working on some new things for my blog (like ^) so that’s why I haven’t been as active but I’m back and I’m here with a few great tips.

  • DO NOT WASH YOUR HAIR EVERYDAY
    • I cannot stress this enough. Just like our skin, our hair can get dry but unlike our skin we have limited things we can apply to our hair so prevent it from drying out. When you wash your hair with shampoo, it strips your hair of it’s natural oils. Your body then thinks, “omg their hair is too dry, lets me produce some oils to moisturize their scalp”; eventually after a while of too much shampooing your hair is used to producing so many oils that you’ll have to shampoo even more which will just dry out your hair, ruin it and prevent it from growing.
  • Eat foods that have a lot of protein.
    • Your hair is made up of keratin (a protein that’s made up of amino acids). The more protein you the longer your hair will get and just remember the healthier you eat, the better you’ll look, your body, skin, hair, nails, etc.
  • Limit the heat and chemical you use on your hair or else your hair will get brittle and start breaking.
  • Try to deep condition your hair once a week. I love to use coconut oil 30 minutes a week before I shower then I wash it off. I also love coconut oil because it has so many beauty benefits. Check them out here.
  • Damaged hair takes a long time to fix and if your hair is damaged it takes it a long time to repair and unless your hair is healthy, it’ll never grow.
    • Because of this you shouldn’t try to manipulate it too much and this includes getting it colored, a perm, etc.
  • Get a lot of vitamins into your body through your diet or supplements.
    • Omega 3 is one of the best things that can help you get and maintain smooth and shiny hair. It’s known for its ability to combat dry and brittle hair, hair loss, dry, flaky scalp and reduced circulation to the scalp. The benefits of omega-3 EFAs include adding luster, sheen and elasticity to your hair. Both DHA and EPA are vital for the nourishment of hair follicles. Omega-3 can help restart hair growth, help hair grow quicker and stronger and even prevent or reverse hair loss. (If you want to read more about the science behind it, read all about it here).
      • As a Muslim, it’s really hard for me to find supplements that don’t contain pork or just meat products in general so when I found this Omega-3 I was thrilled. It also has Omega 6, Omega 9, DHA, EPA and unlike other fish oil supplements I’ve had, this doesn’t taste weird or leave a lingering smell. Honestly, all their products are amazing.
  • Try to brush your hair often so it doesn’t knot up and force you to pull at it (which makes a lot of your hair rip off.
    • I’ve heard a lot of people raving about The Wet Brush but personally since I don’t have too much of a problem with my hair, I never had to resort to buying one but if you need it, you definitely should buy it.
  • Don’t always keep your hair in the same style, part etc. After a while, your hair gets pulled too much, your hair gets weak and your hair starts thinning which contradicts the whole idea of making your hair grow faster.

Getting Rid of Split ends

Things you’ll need:
Wide toothed comb
Pair of hair scissors
Leave in conditioner and hair detangler
Regular hair trims
Conditioner
Weekly hair mask
Proper hairbands (if used)

1// Identify whether you have split ends in your hair. There are several types:

– The generic end split
– Splits occurring multiple times up the same strand of hair
– A split occurring in the middle of the hair strand that will appear as a hole if the strand is bunched up

2// Cut a snip of hair off. Cut no more than 1/4 or inch. You can do this as much as you want depending on how bad your hair is.

-Single strand knots (not really split ends) which occur most often in dry, curly hair

3// Get your hair cut regularly, meaning every six to eight weeks. All hair gets damaged after a while. Get a trim of at least 1/4 to 1 inches, and you should have solved the problem. It will remove split ends and keep your hair healthy and growing strong. Note that you really only need to trim when you have splits on the ends of the hair, so your schedule may vary with your hair type, how you treat your hair and your style goals.

4// Cut them yourself between haircuts using a pair of hair shears. Cut about 1/4″ above the split of a single strand; there may even be a small ball above the split. If you don’t cut above the damage, the split will reappear.

5// Don’t rely on products that claim to “heal” split ends. They can seal the split end to help it look healthier, but they aren’t reversing the damage. These products can, however, help prevent future damage to otherwise healthy hair.

Prevention:

Here are some of the ways the hair is damaged every day and how to prevent damage from these factors and in turn split ends.

Chemicals
Most kinds of chemicals are going to damage your hair to some extent. Chemicals from getting a perm, having your hair highlighted, colored, etc., or even chlorine in bath or pool water all count.
Try to steer clear of chemicals. Natural hair is beautiful. If you absolutely must color your hair, search for the gentlest coloring agent you can find. If you are going to be using chemicals on your hair, be sure to condition your hair more often.

Protect your hair before swimming in a pool, ocean, or lake. This could include: using a leave-in conditioner, oiling your hair, or using a swim cap. Rinsing your hair thoroughly before swimming will also help it absorb fewer chemicals. Be sure to rinse and shampoo your hair as soon as possible after swimming.

Find out if the water you use to wash your hair is harmful.
There can be damaging chemicals in the water you wash your hair with…mainly chlorine. There are filters that will reduce the amount of chlorine in your water.

Brushing and Combing
Many people don’t realize just how fragile the ends of the hair are. Being too rough with a brush or comb, or brushing or combing too often can damage your hair.
Stop teasing or backcombing your hair. This is the most damaging type of brushing. It pulls up the scales of your hair and when you comb/brush that section again the scales break off.

Find a hair friendly comb and/or brush. If you have thicker hair you may need to use a pick or wide-toothed comb. Combs, in general, are more gentle. Your brush or comb should aid you in untangling your hair, not pulling it out.

Never over brush. 100 brushstrokes is not necessary, and may lead to more splits than anything else.

Comb the hair gently. Start at the bottom and work your way up. When you encounter a tangle, don’t rip the comb/brush through it, stop and untangle with your fingers and then proceed. You have to be extremely gentle while untangling wet hair. Curly hair types may require combing the hair when it is still wet.

The Sun
Protect your hair from the Sun. Ultraviolet rays can be as damaging to your hair as your skin.
Wear a hat. If your hair is super long and/or thick, be sure to get a hat that you will be able to fit all your hair into (preferably in a bun).

Look for conditioners that contain sunscreen or mix sunscreen and conditioner together and leave that in your hair.

Washing and Drying
Incorrect washing and washing with shampoos that are too harsh or contain certain ingredients can be damaging to your hair. Rubbing your hair with a towel to dry it can cause nasty damage to your hair. Using a hair dryer on your hair too often will also cause damage.
Buy a good shampoo and conditioner and experiment with what works best for your hair. This may include not washing it every day–possibly conditioning it will suffice.

Wash your hair properly. It is best to only wash the scalp hair and leave the length to hang down your back and the length should not be piled on top of your head. When you rinse the shampoo out of your hair, the shampoo will run down the length, that is as much washing as the ends of your hair need. Conditioner should then be applied to the length to soak for a while before rinsing out. Hot water strips away moisture so rinse your hair with the coolest water you can stand.

Deep condition regularly. If your conditioner regimen isn’t working, try a “deep condition” once or twice a month. This involves putting a leave-in conditioner or oil on your hair and leaving it in for a while. Oils like jojoba and coconut oil are fantastic for this.

Dry hair gently. Vigorously rubbing your hair dry with a towel is not a good idea. Dripping wet hair should be gently squeezed with a towel to get rid of the excess water. Once the excess water is removed, it is best to let your hair air dry naturally. [I have a bad habit of doing this and definitely need to stop]

Tone down the drying. If you are using a dryer or hot tongs regularly, your hair will start to show some damage–the hot air removes moisture from your hair. Using too hot a setting or holding the dryer too close to your hair will also cause damage. I honestly don’t remember the last time I hair dried my hair or even used a hot tool on it and my hair is good but my mom, on the other hand, blow-dries her hair ever single day and it’s really rough. [Ironically, she’s doing it right now]

Tips and warnings:

For oily hair try washing your scalp with a gentle shampoo and use a light conditioner on the length on a daily basis.

For curly hair you have to be very gentle. Let your hair air dry if you live in a warmer arid climate. Use a blow dryer on medium to low with a diffuser if you live a cooler more humid climate. Comb out tangles in the shower while you still have conditioner in your hair.

For dry hair try these tips. Do not dry your hair all the way, it tends to dry it out more. Use coconut, avocado, or jojoba oil overnight as a deep conditioning treatment.

Eat a balanced diet. Getting all the vitamins and sufficient protein will ensure that your body produces the healthiest hair possible. Vitamins sold at drugstores can also help increase growth.

Do not cut your hair without the proper tools. A good majority of the general population do not have scissors sharp enough for cutting hair. Buy a pair of hair-cutting scissors, and use them only for hair. Dull scissors will only encourage the hair to split further.

Be sure not to fall into the bad habit of taking a section of your ponytail in each hand below the hair band and pulling the two sections apart to tighten the ponytail. This is equivalent to back brushing and very damaging!

Do not straighten or curl your hair everyday once every two weeks or maybe even once a month depending upon your requirement.

Just try to take care of your hair because it’s your hair and remember a little effort now will help so much in the long run. Plus who wouldn’t love to show off their beautiful hair?

How to clean your Toms.

Since Toms are made out of cotton and synthetic fibers meaning they get dirty and smelly really easily but no one wants to wear smelly shoes do they? So here is how to properly wash them without messing them up.

1// Put your shoes in a pillow case, tie the end, and put them in the washing machine;

2// Add your regular detergent, then add a half cup of baking soda

3// Make sure to run it on a cold cycle.

4// After it’s done, put your nice smelling TOMS in the sun to dry.

DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE DRYER, unless you want them to shrink and become ruined.

Lately, I have been struggling to fix my hair because of the recent change of season. I found these tips on some notebook of mine from I have no idea where and I wanted to share tips and tricks to keep your hair nice and pretty.

1// As we all know, humidity enters hair, especially curly hair and changes the curl pattern. This leaves hair frizzy and full of flyaways. After shampooing, apply a leave-in humidity-fighting product or a drop of regular conditioner to fix your hair. Don’t rinse it out.

2// Too much chlorine isnt good for your hair. To keep locks in peak form, rinse your hair with fresh water as soon as possible after you swim.

3// Use gel to tame your hair if it looks wacky when you have just woken up.

4// Using the wrong brush can really ruin your “do”. To add fullness to straight hair, use a jumbo round brush. To straighten wavy hair, try a half-round styling brush or paddle brush. Never brush curly hair, scrunch your curls with your fingers instead.

5// Let your hair air-dry sometimes or as often as you can and have split-ends trimmed often.

6// Your diet does affect your hair. Choose nutritious foods for nutritious hair

7// The wrong styling product, or too much product, can really make a mess of your hair. less is more!

8// If your hair is curly, don’t use shampoos designed to add volume. Read labels and pick your cleansing products with care.

9// Baby-fine hair can cause any look to go limp- especially in the heat. Opt for a great cut.

19// You can fight frizzy hair with a silicone based serum. They are non-greasy and usually contain added vitamins.

20// Do not brush on a wet hair. Your hair is at its weakest point when wet and it will severely damage it.

21// Don’t shampoo your hair everyday because if you do, just like your skin, more oils will be given out to keep things balanced so try limiting it to every other day.

There are plenty of tricks for longer hair you definitely need to know. Extensions may be one of them, true enough, but they are not the only magically fast hair growth trick in the book. Here are a few other tips and tricks:

1// Straighten it.

After all, I bet no one could ever doubt their usefulness, especially when it comes to the styling of really short hair!
